IACP at the United Nations Leaders’ Summit on Countering Violent Extremism
Recently, IACP staff had the opportunity to attend several side events in New York City in conjunction with the United Nations Leaders’ Summit on Countering Violent Extremism. The events were organized in part by the U.S. Department of State and numerous non-profit organizations, including the Institute for Strategic Dialogue and the Counter Extremism Project. The key themes from each event were community engagement, youth initiated programs, equality for women, and building community and international networks to confront extremism in communities around the world. At the all-day Global Youth Summit Against Violent Extremism, participants browsed the “marketplace of ideas” where more than 40 different youth-run countering extremism programs were showcased.
The Counter Extremism Project Presents
Enduring Music: Compositions from the Holocaust
Marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Counter Extremism Project's ARCHER at House 88 presents a landmark concert of music composed in ghettos and death camps, performed in defiance of resurgent antisemitism. Curated with world renowned composer, conductor, and musicologist Francesco Lotoro, the program restores classical, folk, and popular works, many written on scraps of paper or recalled from memory, to public consciousness. Featuring world and U.S. premieres from Lotoro's archive, this concert honors a repertoire that endured against unimaginable evil.
