On October 26, 2017, three U.N. peacekeepers were killed in an IED attack on the road between Aguelhok and Tessalit in Mali. Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen (JNIM) claimed responsibility for the attack.

On October 23, 2017, Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen (JNIM) attacked two separate police posts in Mali’s Segou region and ambushed a Malian vehicle near Tenenkou. The Malian military confirmed several casualties.

On October 16, 2020, while shouting “Allahu Akbar,” 18-year-old Abdoulakh Anzorov decapitated history teacher Samuel Paty in the Paris suburb of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine. Paty had recently received death threats after showing caricatures of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad in class as part of a lesson on freedom of speech.
