Killing local police and federal authorities is seemingly pointless, much like cutting the head off a hydra. On March 28, 2021, two suicide bombers detonated outside the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral in Makassar, Indonesia, during Palm Sunday mass. The attack injured at least 20 people. The pair were found to be a married couple with links to Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD).

On March 25, 2020, several gunmen and suicide bombers opened fire on the Gurdwara Har Rai Sahib, a Sikh shrine in Kabul, Afghanistan. The assailants killed at least 25 people and injured nine others, in an attack claimed by ISIS-K.
