Reuters: Israel may seize all Gaza in expanded operation, officials say

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday an expanded offensive against Palestinian militant group Hamas would be "intensive" after his security cabinet approved plans that may include seizing the Gaza Strip and controlling aid. However an Israeli defence official said the operation would not be launched before U.S. President Donald Trump concludes his visit next week to the Middle East. The decision, after weeks of faltering efforts to agree a ceasefire with Hamas, underlines the threat that a war heaping international pressure on Israel amid dwindling public support at home could continue with no end in sight. A report by Israel's public broadcaster Kan, citing officials with knowledge of the details, said the new plan was gradual and would take months, with forces focusing first on one area of the battered enclave.

BR24: IS woman brought back to Bavaria and arrested

The German security authorities repeatedly stated that many of these women did not want to return to Germany. However, a paper by researcher Sofia Koller from the international non-profit organization "Counter Extremism Project" from February 2024 shows that several women did want to return even then. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, around 40 percent of the approximately 1,150 people who traveled from Germany to Syria or Iraq returned to Germany, around 25 percent of whom were women. The security authorities assume that a smaller proportion of the returnees continue to hold Salafist-jihadist views. The Bavarian Office for the Protection of the Constitution's 2023 report states that this applies to two of the 16 returnees in Bavaria.

Jerusalem Post: Tel Aviv airport strike shows Houthis gaining strategic edge in proxy war

Since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023, the Iranian-backed Houthi group has launched over 70 rockets at Israel in what it claims is an act of solidarity with Palestinians. “It is highly unlikely that Israel will be able to stop this, so long as the war in Gaza continues,” Citrinowicz added. On Sunday, Israeli media reported that tens of thousands of reservists were being called to duty to reinforce operations against Hamas in Gaza, where fighting has dragged on for more than a year. Israel has successfully intercepted most incoming attacks, with the exception of one fatality caused by a Houthi drone in Tel Aviv last summer. In response, Israel has carried out several airstrikes on Houthi infrastructure in Yemen, although these have since ceased under a reported agreement with the US, which is now leading military operations against the group.

Jerusalem Post: Goal of Israel’s new Gaza plan conquest and long-term boots on ground

Unlike the past, "the IDF intends to remain in any area that is conquered to prevent terrorism from returning. It will handle cleansed locations according to the Rafah model, where all threats were eliminated, and it became part of the security zone,” a security source said. There are different views regarding what will occur once these goals are achieved. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said that it is important for people to stop being afraid to use the word “occupation.” The operation’s goal will be occupation and conquest, with long-term boots on the ground. Some optimists believe Israel has finally made the decision it should have made back in October 2023, as the move could result in clearing Hamas and removing it.

The Guardian: How Ohio became a hotbed of white supremacism, spreading its tentacles globally

By many accounts, Hilliard, a leafy suburb west of downtown Columbus, is a midwestern success story: its progressive school district gives a vacation day for all students to mark the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr – the first in Ohio to do so – and its homes are highly sought-after by a growing number of diverse families where locals enjoy shopping at the oldest Asian grocery in the state. But it is also where Christopher Brenner Cook, a convicted terrorist, grew up. Deutsche Welle: Germany sees new debate over possible ban of the AfD

On Friday, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) was classified as "confirmed right-wing extremist" by Germany's domestic intelligence agency, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV). Now, there has been a first fallout: two AfD politicians and parliamentarians are not allowed to accompany Hesse's Minister for European affairs, Manfred Pentz, on a trip to Serbia and Croatia. Pentz explained that he could not expect international partners "to sit down at the same table with representatives of a party that has been confirmed as right-wing extremist." Further measures also threaten the radical right-wing party: several federal states want to examine whether being a civil servant, including judges, police officers, teachers, or soldiers, is still compatible with being a member of the AfD.

The strikes injured at least 21 people, the Houthi-run health ministry spokesman Anees al-Asbahi said. The Houthis shut down the area around the port and cement factory following the strikes, three sources said. They said the extent of the damage at the port was unknown, yet the intensity of the strikes and fire caused severe damage to the containers' berth. Two other sources estimated the damage at 70% of the port's five docks, warehouses and customs area. The strikes occurred as two ships were unloading their cargo, with traffic at the port at a complete standstill, a worker at the port said.
