Associated Press: US, Israel and Iran agree to a 2-week ceasefire but much remains unclear and some attacks continue

Iran, the United States and Israel agreed to a two-week ceasefire in an 11th-hour deal that headed off U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to unleash a bombing campaign to destroy Iranian civilization. But hours after the announcement, Iran and Gulf Arab countries reported new attacks Wednesday. Even before the new attacks, much about the agreement was unclear as the sides presented vastly different visions of the terms. 

 

New York Times: Iran Releases 10 Points It Says Are Basis for Cease-fire Talks

Iran publicly released on Wednesday what it said was the 10-point framework for talks that President Trump described as “a workable basis on which to negotiate” an end to the war. Much of it consisted of maximalist demands that look difficult, if not impossible, to reconcile with U.S. aims.

President Trump on Wednesday threatened to impose massive 50% tariffs on countries sending military firepower to Iran, putting Russia and China on notice. Agence France Presse: Seven detained over Czech ‘terror’ arson

Czech police said Tuesday seven people had been detained over an arson attack at an arms company last month that authorities are investigating as a potential anti-Israeli terrorist attack. The fire in the central city of Pardubice, which did not cause injuries, broke out on March 20 at a warehouse in a business park used by LPP Holding, which develops and produces drones and other military equipment.

A judge in St. Petersburg on Wednesday sentenced six former members of the democratic youth organization Vesna to prison sentences of varying lengths after they were found guilty of charges including extremism and spreading “war fakes.” Vesna, which means spring in Russian, was founded in St. Petersburg in 2013. After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, it staged anti-war rallies in Russian cities, shortly after which it was designated as an “extremist” organization.

The UN’s humanitarian agency says attacks continued in eastern Afghanistan despite an Eid ceasefire, displacing more than 94,000 people, including about 13,400 families. According to a report released on Monday by OCHA, the highest number of displaced people were recorded in Khost with 26,200, followed by Kunar with 25,300.

The state-backed Fars News Agency reported that Iran was weighing attacking IDF positions around the region. Times of Israel: IDF admits Tehran synagogue was ‘collateral damage’ in strike on Iran commander

The Israel Defense Forces admitted late Tuesday that it was behind a strike early in the day that damaged a synagogue in Tehran, saying it was targeting a senior Iranian commander and that it regretted the “collateral damage” to the Jewish house of worship nearby. In response to a query by The Times of Israel, the IDF said that it struck a top commander from Khatam al-Anbiya, Iran’s military emergency command.

The National: Rocket attack in Basra raises tension between Iraq and Kuwait

As mediators pushed through a ceasefire agreement between Iran, the US and Israel on Wednesday night, tension was raised between Iraq and Kuwait after a rocket attack Iraqis claimed was launched by its neighbour. Hours later, protesters gathered outside the Kuwaiti consulate in Basra. They waved flags of the Popular Mobilisation Forces, an umbrella group of mostly Iran-backed paramilitary groups, as well as flags of the powerful Kataib Hezbollah militia.

Jerusalem Post: Trump asserts Lebanon not included in US-Iran ceasefire deal

US President Donald Trump asserted that Lebanon was not included in the two-week temporary ceasefire deal between the US, Israel, and Iran during a conversation with PBS News reporter Liz Landers on Wednesday. When probed for a reason why Lebanon was excluded, Trump stated that it was because of the Lebanese terrorist organization Hezbollah.

 

Naharnet: Series of Israeli strikes across Lebanon kills dozens, wounds hundreds

The health ministry said in a preliminary toll that the series of Israeli strikes across Lebanon on Wednesday killed dozens of people and wounded hundreds. "In a very serious escalation, Israeli warplanes launched a wave of simultaneous airstrikes on several Lebanese areas, resulting in, in an initial count, dozens of martyrs and hundreds of wounded," the ministry said in a statement.
