A collaborative Jewish-Greek choral concert to raise money for Bondi Beach massacre victims’ families has been cancelled due to vehement political opposition by some choir members to Jewish participation in the event. Ironically titled Concert for Hope and Unity, the Australian Hellenic Choir was to join forces with the Sydney Jewish Choral Society in conjunction with a major Australian choir for a rousing two-hour performance at the Sydney Town Hall on June 28.

But at a vote taken at a meeting last Monday ahead of rehearsals, more than half of the Hellenic choir “politically objected’’ to performing with a Jewish choir at the Town Hall concert, with others fearing for their personal safety, citing a potential attack.
