When Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ruled Iran as the supreme leader, he exerted absolute power over all decisions about war, peace and negotiations with the United States. His son and successor does not play the same role. Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, the son, is an elusive figure who has not been seen and whose voice has not been heard since he was appointed in March. Instead, a battle-hardened collective of commanders in the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and those aligned with them are the key decision makers on matters of security, war and diplomacy.
Reuters: UN weighs continued Lebanon presence after peacekeeping mission ends
Some form of ongoing U.N. presence might continue after a peacekeeping mission in Lebanon ends later this year, U.N. peacekeeping chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix said on Thursday. The U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), first deployed in 1978, has over 7,000 peacekeepers from 47 nations. It has reported five of them killed in recent weeks, three from Indonesia and two from France, in the latest war between Israel andIran-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah.

New York Times: U.S. Withholds Iraq’s Own Money Over Ties to Iran
The United States has suspended air shipments of dollars to Iraq, according to two senior Iraqi officials, withholding money that Iraq earned from its own oil sales. It is part of a vigorous pressure campaign by the U.S. administration to force the Baghdad government to distance itself from Iran. Washington has also suspended cooperation with and funding for Iraq’s security services, two Iraqi officials said earlier this week.
In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed a lawsuit brought by a U.S. Army veteran injured in a Taliban suicide bombing to proceed, vacating a lower court ruling that had dismissed it. Bay District Schools in Florida, which has nearly 50 schools with almost 30,000 students, failed to take sufficient action against Jew-hatred, according to a complaint that the Anti-Defamation League and the law firm Akerman filed with the U.S. Department of Education. The ADL said on Thursday that it filed the complaint, which is dated Feb. 24 and alleges that the district violated Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

The Economist: A wave of antisemitic attacks in Britain reveals a new threat
On March 23rd four ambulances belonging to Hatzola, a Jewish charity, were set alight in north London. On April 15th two people dressed in dark clothing and balaclavas threw a brick and bottles that may have contained petrol at a synagogue. A few days later a fire was set next to the former offices of a Jewish educational charity. The day after that a bottle containing accelerant was flung through a synagogue window.

Two people were arrested on Tuesday in connection with a plot to commit arson against a British Jewish community site, the Metropolitan Police said on Wednesday night, raising the number of people arrested for involvement in the conspiracy to nine.

President Donald Trump said Thursday he has ordered the U.S. military to “shoot and kill” small Iranian boats that deploy mines to choke traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump’s post on social media came shortly after the U.S. military seized another tanker associated with the smuggling of Iranian oil, ratcheting up a standoff with Tehran over the strait through which 20% of all crude oil and natural gas traded passes.

The Iranian regime has reportedly enlisted the aid of foreign militias to keep civilian protests down, according to social network expert Effi Banai, who spoke to 103FM's Sivan Cohen on Thursday. Social media content emerging from Iran paints a complex and increasingly tense picture, Banai said, adding that the regime appears to be trying to prevent a widespread outbreak of protests by reinforcing its presence on the ground.
Iran hanged a man on Thursday after he was convicted of membership in a banned opposition group and alleged collaboration with Israel, the judiciary said. “Sultan-Ali Shirzadi-Fakhr was hanged early this morning for membership in the terrorist group” of the People’s Mujahedeen of Iran (MEK) and “collaboration with the Israeli regime’s spy service,” the judiciary’s Mizan Online website reported.

Reuters: Six suspected Nigerian coup plotters plead not guilty as court adjourns trial
