WTOP: The Hunt: Is the West forgetting about the threat of terrorism?


CEP Senior Director Dr. Hans-Jakob Schindler interviewed: "What we have done in the last, I would say, five to six years, but particularly since 2021 is we have withdrawn as an international community... from some of the key areas where terrorism is happening these days. From Afghanistan, but also the French withdrawal and the European reduction of activities in West Africa. We have a resurgence of al-Shabaab East Africa, we have new ISIS provinces in Central Africa. All of these places, terrorism continues to happen."

On February 26, 2015, a Boko Haram suicide bomber detonated his explosives near a market in Biu, Nigeria, killing 19 people and injuring 20 others. A second attempted-suicide bomber was caught and beaten by a crowd before he was able to carry out his attack.
