Singapore Today: The US-born Yemeni cleric who fuelled radical Islamists around the world
The 27 Bangladeshi men who were arrested under Singapore’s Internal Security Act were described as subscribing to the extremist beliefs and teachings of “radical idealogues” such as Anwar Awlaki. In December, the Counter Extremism Project, an advocacy group based in Washington, called on YouTube and other platforms to permanently ban Awlaki’s material, including his early, mainstream lectures. “His work has inspired countless plots and attacks,” said Mr Mark D Wallace, a former diplomat and homeland security official who is the project’s chief executive. “It’s hate speech. It should come down, period. Like child porn, it should be expeditiously removed.”

Enduring Music: Compositions from the Holocaust
Marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Counter Extremism Project's ARCHER at House 88 presents a landmark concert of music composed in ghettos and death camps, performed in defiance of resurgent antisemitism. Curated with world renowned composer, conductor, and musicologist Francesco Lotoro, the program restores classical, folk, and popular works, many written on scraps of paper or recalled from memory, to public consciousness. Featuring world and U.S. premieres from Lotoro's archive, this concert honors a repertoire that endured against unimaginable evil.
