On January 3, 2020, Boko Haram attacked the town of Michika, Nigeria and abducted Reverend Lawan Andimi. The group later released a video featuring the Christian pastor pleading for his life, only to kill him days later on February 24, 2020.

On April 12, 2019, a bomb exploded in a vegetable market in Quetta, Pakistan, where many members of the Shiite minority live. Afghanistan-based jihadist group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi claimed responsibility for the attack, which killed 21 people and wounded at least 48 others.

On April 3, 2017, a suicide bomber blew up a subway car in Saint Petersburg, Russia, killing 15 people and injuring 64 others. Al-Qaeda affiliate Imam Shamil Battalion claimed responsibility for the attack via a statement circulated on Telegram.
