On September 1, 2018, a 19-year-old Afghan man launched a knife attack at Amsterdam's central railway station, stabbing and critically injuring two U.S. tourists. The suspect was a German resident, identified only as Jawed S., and had a "terrorist motive".

On August 28, 2018, members of the Bangsmoro Islamic Freedom Fighters detonated an improvised explosive device in a shopping area in Isulan, Philippines. The attack—which occurred during a harvest festival—killed three people, including a 7-year-old, and injured 36 others.

On August 29, 2016, a powerful suicide car bomb struck an army training camp in Aden, Yemen, killing 72 people and injuring 67 others. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place as new military recruits were queuing for breakfast.

On August 24, 2012, al-Shabaab gunmen, disguised as government security personnel, took siege of the Muna Hotel in Mogadishu, Somalia. The assailants engaged in a two-hour gun battle before on detonated an explosive vest, which killed 32 people.

On August 21, 2016, al-Shabaab carried out a double suicide bombing in Galkayo, Mudug in north-central Somalia. The first was a truck bomb that targeted a local government headquarters, then a second car bomb targeted first responders. At least 20 people were slain and 30 others were wounded.
