On January 3, 2021, ISIS militants kidnapped 11 coal miners in Machh, Balochistan, Pakistan. The jihadists blindfolded their hostages and tied their hands behind their backs before slitting their throats. The victims were members of the Hazara minority. 

On December 23, 2021, gunmen ambushed a group of Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) conducting a sweep of a remote area in Burkina Faso’s northern Loroum province, killing at least 41 civilian fighters. Following the attack, the Burkinabe government declared two days of national mourning. 

On December 21, 2020, Boko Haram assailants launched a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) that hit a Nigerian military convoy and killed five soldiers in Borno State.   

On December 17, 2018, the bodies of 24-year-old Danish woman Louisa Vesterager Jespersen and 28-year-old Norwegian woman Maren Ueland were found decapitated in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. Suspects in the murders released a video on the internet showing several perpetrators swearing allegiance to ISIS while carrying out the attack.      

On December 16, 2021, a Houthi attack on an Arab coalition position in the Harad District of Yemen’s Hajjah province killed 14 Sudanese soldiers.
