In May 2018, ISIS released a propaganda video that showed a captured Syrian soldier being bound and outfitted with explosives. The prisoner of war was then thrown off a building and exploded.

On June 25, 2018, attackers slit the throats of the mother and three sisters of an Iraqi election commission employee. No group claimed responsibility, although ISIS had threatened to attack anyone who assisted with the Iraqi elections.

On April 14, 2018, four suicide bombers from the Mali-based al-Qaeda affiliate, Group for Support of Islam and Muslims, launched an attack on the Timbuktu airport. One UN peacekeeper was killed, while several others and seven French soldiers were wounded.
