On May 31, 2016, the Taliban set-up a fake checkpoint on the Kunduz-Takhar highway, allowing them to kidnap 220 people on buses and in cars. Over the following week, more than 33 of those kidnapped were executed, 10 were released, and it is unclear what became of the other hostages.

On May 30, 2017, a suicide car bomb was detonated in front of an ice cream parlor in Baghdad, Iraq, killing at least 26 people. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, which it said was meant to target Shiite Muslims.

On April 1, 2019, Boko Haram insurgents looted and burned houses in Chibok, in Nigeria’s Borno State. Chibok made international headlines in April 2014, when 276 schoolgirls from there were kidnapped by the terror group.

On May 22, 2017, Salman Abedi carried out a suicide bombing at Manchester Arena in England. The attack targeted concertgoers leaving a concert by American singer Ariana Grande. The blast killed 22 people and injured more than 800, according to police.
