Fact:

On January 27, 2019, two bombs exploded during Sunday mass at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral in Jolo, Sulu, Philippines. At least 23 people died and more than 100 were wounded. The attack, which authorities blamed on the Abu Sayyaf Group, was later claimed by ISIS.

Fact:

On January 27, 2015, ISIS militants detonated a bomb outside of the Corinthia Hotel in Tripoli, Libya, instantly killing three guards. The assailants rushed into the hotel, took hostages, and fired at employees and guests, killing 10 civilians.

On January 23, 2020, Islamist militants carried out an attack on a military base in Mbau, Mozambique. The attack killed at least 22 soldiers.

 On January 21, 2021, two ISIS suicide bombers attacked an open-air market in Tayaran Square, central Baghdad. 32 civilians were killed and more than 110 others were wounded.

On January 20, 2018, gunmen attacked the Inter-Continental Hotel in Kabul, opening fire and taking hostages, reportedly targeting foreigners. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, which left 40 people dead and 22 injured.

On January 15, 2019, al-Shabaab gunmen stormed an upscale hotel and office complex in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi. The attack lasted over 12 hours, killing 22 people and wounding 27 others.
