We reiterate once again that the brigades will directly target US bases across the region in case the US enemy commits a folly and decides to strike our resistance fighters and their camps [in Iraq].
Mar. 2023Several days after authorities in the UK and Dubai stopped an alleged plot to ship bombs via FedEx from Yemen to locations in the United States, Arab media outlets by and large reported that the plot was likely the work of AQAP.
Saudi Arabia’s al-Eqtisadiah compiled reports from Western media outlets. The paper cited a Reuters report that pointed the blame on Saudi citizen and chief AQAP bomb maker Ibrahim al-Asiri. In the same compilation, al-Eqtisadiah pulled reports from the French press that al-Asiri was the same bomb maker who manufactured the explosive device used by Christmas Day bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. “Asabi’a Al-Itiham Tatajih ‘ila Al-Saudi Ibrahim Hassan Asiri fi Qadiya Al-Turud Al-Mufakhakha Al-Murasila ‘ila Amrika,” Al-Eqtisadiah, October 31, 2010, http://www.aleqt.com/2010/10/31/article_463369.html.

I am terribly sad. Throughout my professional and personal life, whenever I was unsure of what to say or think, my friend, the Senator, was always there. He had a unique gift for finding the right words to match any feeling or emotion, often with humor, a smile, and laughter. Now, as I write this without his guidance and kind wisdom, I feel his absence deeply. Having the Senator by my side was one of life's greatest gifts to me, and I know I'm not alone in feeling profoundly touched by him. That was the Senator's great gift—he touched and guided so many of us, either personally or through his example. --Ambassador Mark D. Wallace
