Afghanistan 

  • Four “Taliban intelligence agents” were allegedly killed while traveling to Ghazni. It is unclear what incident this allegation refers to and whether any group claimed responsibility.
  • Four Chinese nationals were shot and killed while mining for gold in Shahr-e-Bozorg, Badakhshan.

  • The director of intelligence of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Abdul Haq Wasiq, met with the head of Uzbekistan’s intelligence service, Bahodir Gurbonov, to discuss their counter-ISIS efforts and recent arrests in Uzbekistan.
  • Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi noted that Iran and Afghanistan had close political and economic ties and that trade between the two countries had “reached approximately $3 billion.” 

Pakistan

  • Unidentified militants killed a Pakistani Army major near Jabal al-Noor in Balochistan.
  • Unidentified gunmen murdered a cleric, Pir Ibrahim, and an investigator for the Ministry of Interior in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
  • Three Pakistani soldiers were killed and three others were wounded in a drone attack in South Waziristan.
  • Unidentified gunmen killed five Pakistani soldiers in Mastung, Balochistan.
  • Unidentified militants murdered the leader of an alleged counterterrorism “death squad” working for Inter-Services Intelligence in Nushki, Balochistan.

  • July 19: Pro-ISIS post on Telegram claiming that four “Taliban intelligence agents” were killed traveling on the road to Ghazni. The post also stated that the Taliban have been protecting “the families and relatives of the [Shiite] Fatemiyoun militia” in Syria, and compared the Taliban regime to the Syrian government of President Ahmed al-Sharaa. “Urgent. Four Taliban intelligence agents were killed on the road to the Afghan city of Ghazni. It is worth noting that the Taliban government in Afghanistan has worked to secure the families and relatives of the Fatemiyoun militia, which has been killing the Syrian ‘people’ over the past few years, just as the 

Damascus government is doing today to protect Druze militants and their families in Sweida and the Syrian coast.” 

 

“Urgent. A [Pakistan Army Military Intelligence] major, Anwar Kakar, was killed when a sticky bomb targeted his vehicle on the main Eastern Ring Road near the outskirts of Jabal al-Noor in Balochistan. 

Major Anwar [Kakar] was previously the director of [Inter-Services] Public Relations of the Pakistani 

Army. [Please note: it is not clear if Major Kakar was the director.]” 

 

  • July 21: Pro-ISIS post on Telegram claiming that four Chinese nationals were shot and killed while mining for gold in Shahr-e-Bozorg, Badakhshan. 

“Urgent. Four Chinese workers were killed after being shot in a mine while prospecting for gold in the 

Shahr-e-Bozorg area of Badakhshan, Afghanistan.”

“Urgent. Gunmen assassinate a Pakistani government-affiliated cleric and his companion (a Ministry of Interior investigator) in Charsadda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.” 

 

 

  • July 21: Pro-ISIS post on Telegram stating that Taliban leaders met with the president of the Muslim World League, Muhammad Abdul Karim al-Issa. The post alleged that al-Issa is “a prominent advocate of normalization with Israel” and his companions are “members of the Masonic Lodge in New York.” See https://www.arabnews.com/node/2609336/.

“Follow-ups. Today, the Afghan Taliban government celebrated a meeting between its leaders and Muhammad Abdul Karim al-Issa, the president of the Muslim World League. 

“Al-Issa is considered a prominent advocate of normalization with Israel, and all his companions are members of the Masonic Lodge in New York. 

“Previous photos of al-Issa praying for the Jews killed in the Holocaust.”

  • July 22: Pro-ISIS post on Telegram claiming that three Pakistani soldiers were killed and three others were wounded in an attack where a drone dropped a mortar shell in South Waziristan. 

“Urgent. Three Pakistani soldiers were killed and three others were injured after being attacked by a mortar shell dropped from a drone in the South Waziristan area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.” 

 

 

  • July 23: Pro-ISIS post on Telegram stating that the director of intelligence of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Abdul Haq Wasiq, met with the head of Uzbek intelligence, Gurbonov Bahodir, to discuss their counter-ISIS efforts. “Bahodir praised the Taliban’s efforts” and noted that they provided information about 16 Uzbeks who were spreading online propaganda. “Follow-ups. Today, a meeting was held between the head of Uzbek intelligence, Gurbonov Bahodir, and the head of Afghan Taliban intelligence, Abdul Haq Wasiq, to discuss the war on terrorism in the region. 

“Bahodir praised the Taliban's efforts in combating terrorism and commended them for providing information on 16 individuals suspected of harboring terrorist ideologies and operating 120 online accounts for discussing and disseminating propaganda materials from the city of Namangan in eastern Uzbekistan. Uzbek authorities arrested them following a Taliban denunciation. 

“Among those arrested is a 19-year-old woman accused of establishing a propaganda channel.” 

 

  • July 23: Pro-ISIS post on Telegram claiming that unidentified gunmen killed five Pakistani soldiers, including a major, in Mastung, Balochistan. 

“Urgent. Five Pakistani army personnel, including a major, were killed in an armed attack in Mastung, Balochistan.” 

 

  • July 23: Pro-ISIS post on Telegram claiming that unidentified militants murdered the leader of an alleged counterterrorism “death squad” working for Inter-Services Intelligence in Nushki, Balochistan. 

“Urgent. Armed men assassinate Muawiya Jamaluddin, the leader of the Pakistani intelligence agency’s ‘death squad,’ which specializes in tracking down and eliminating militants and terrorists in Pakistan, in the Nushki District of Balochistan Province.” 

 

  • July 24: Pro-ISIS post on Telegram stating that Amir Khan Muttaqi noted that Iran and Afghanistan had close political and economic ties and that trade between the two countries had “reached approximately $3 billion.” 

“Follow-ups. Taliban foreign minister, during his annual report in Kabul: ‘Trade between Iran and Afghanistan has reached approximately $3 billion, and it is expected to exceed this figure. Our trade and political relations with Iran are excellent.’”
