Cornell pled guilty in August 2016 to attempting to kill government employees, possession of a firearm intended for violent crime, and attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization. Cornell\u2019s parents said that they believe their son was coerced into the plot, calling him in media interviews a \u201cmama\u2019s boy\u201d whose \u201cbest friend is his kitty cat.\u201d Cornell had recently become interested in Islam, according to his father.
